  • place a participle brushstroke or two as a hook or detail
  • discuss apostrophes' use and apply to writing
  • review reading STAAR Simulation

Opening:
1. Review AoW2.6 and Independent Reading Logs; Discuss Grades.

2. Turn in Independent Reading Log #24.

3. Find page 20 in the Brushstrokes packet and explain the use of participles

4. Share successful brush strokes from the Chris Van Allsburg images.


Work Period:
5. Locate your narrative simulation essay handed back last week.  
  • Skim through and find a moment of action and HIGHLIGHT it.
  • Consider which of the three brushstrokes would entertain and delight a reader.
    • Apply a brushstroke to your essay as a hook or detail.
      • Absolutes
      • Appositives
      • Participles

6. Share brushstrokes in your new grouping.

7. Class Notebook: Discuss and Review Apostrophes.  Point out the questions in the Simulation that relied on apostrophe knowledge.
  • What are the two rules for apostrophes?
    • What to do with "it's"?
    • What to do with a plural possessive?
8. With a new color of highlighter, circle all of the apostrophes and "-s endings" in your narrative essay.
  • Make corrections if necessary (editing)


Closing:
9. Review Passage One of the Reading Simulation.
