  • create a "working" controlling idea
  • use absolutes to describe an imagined scene
Please have out the following:

  • your Reader's Notebook (Notes on Reading)
  • Independent Reading Log #19
  • Article of the Week 2.1


Opening:
1. Submit your Independent Reading Log (tuck into your Notes on Reading where you have 2-3 entries for last week.)

2. Form groups of four or five and discuss AoW.2.1

3. Hand out: Article of the Week 2.2 and new Independent Reading Log

Be sure to complete the new Article of the Week by Thursday.

Work Period:
4. Take our your Writing Workshop packet

  • What is our topic?
  • What subtopics should we consider for our essay?
  • What is our controlling idea?
5. In your groups:
  • Brainstorm subtopics
  • Determine organization of subtopics
  • Draft a controlling idea (a single sentence that determines your opinion on the topic and a direction your essay will take)
6. As a large group, we'll choose one controlling idea and draft the essay tomorrow during class.


Closing:
7. Film Clip: Absolutes in Action sequences (Description #3 in Brush Strokes packet)

Homework: 
Complete Description #4 as it instructs in the Brush Strokes packet.
