I can…
- review engaging openings using different techniques
Opening:
1. Review the Five Leads
2. Share your Original "Beginning", then your New "Beginning"
- Partners - what type of lead was it? How effective was it? Did it leave you "wanting more"?
- Writer - describe why your new lead was effective (or ineffective).
- Could you have done better with another lead?
- Can you revise it again? Sure! Always!!
Work Period:
4. Copy these definitions into your journal:
- Sensory Details
- Simile
5. Small group discussion:
- Why are these important for the MIDDLE of your personal narrative?
6. View each Image
- write a literal observation
- write a revision
- add sensory images or details.
- add thoughts or feelings (from a 1st person POV.)
7. Write a 10-minute quick write about the THIRD image…use as many similes, sensory images and details as you can.
Closing:
7. Homework: Rewrite a portion of the MIDDLE of your sample narrative. Where do you "tell" rather than "show"?
- Add/Substitute/Rearrange
- Sensory Images
- Details
- Similes
- Add thoughts and feelings to your Revision
