Opening:


1. In your small groups, share the animal that you chose for your "transformation" story.
  • Does it have the following:
    • A LEAD that gets the story off the ground
    • A Beginning, Middle and End
    • Sensory Details (adjectives and adverbs, as well as Vivid Verbs)
    • Dialogue between a human and a god
    • A FRAILTY/WEAKNESS on the part of the human

2. Share aloud any that were particularly successful.

3. Journal Quickwrites:
  • What common character trait do Arachne, Phaethon and Icarus all share??  What warning have all the story tellers given to humans?

  • What warning did your story give to humans?


Work Period:

4. Examine the elements of nature on page 76.  
  • With a partner from your group, explain how people in the distant past (before science) might have explained the origins of these natural phenomena. 

Closing:

Monday will be the beginning of the EA.  What natural phenomena will you explain?  Brainstorm on page 81 and 82 to get some ideas together for next week.
