Opening:
1. Copy Tone and the definition into your Journal.
2. Review Definition, then Copy down a sentence in the story that really captures the attitude the speaker has toward one of the following subjects:
- the sow-hog
- her mother
- walking
4. Explain what the tone of the sentence does to the meaning of the text.
Work Period:
5. Pair up and discuss your responses to the Quickwrites on page 18.
6. As we read, do the following:
- How do authors create realistic characters? As we read "A Hundred Bucks of Happy," take notes on the narrator in the "My Notes" section.
- What do the choices of the narrator reveal about this character? Highlight the choices the character makes throughout the narrative. (Look for eight choices)
Closing:
7. In your small group, review the choices that the narrator makes. Orally retell the sequence of events - so far.
- Use transitional words from the poster to retell the sequence of events.
